"What are you going to do with your new resurrected life? This is the heroic question." Richard Rohr

Yearning to be Reunited

Yesterday, I had to leave my family and go to Cleveland for my sister-in-law’s surgery.  From time to time my work or some other situation will cause me to be separated from my wife and my son.  When I leave my family I long to be back with them while we are apart.  While I am gone I can take care of business, and I can even have fun, but I do not feel complete.  I know something is amiss because we are not united as a family should be.  When I return from the road I am full of joy because we are together again.

Although enmity is not the cause of the separation between me and my family, I think something similar happens when we persist in sin.  Sin can sever our relationship with the Almighty.  If something comes between us and God, then we should feel the separation and distance just as we do when we leave our family.  We should long to be back in God’s good graces, and have fellowship with Him again.  Just as we would do anything to be united with our family, we should do whatever it takes to be conjoined with God once again.  We are not the same without Him.

“As a deer pants for flowing streams, so pants my soul for you, O God.” (Psalm 42:1)
