Resurrected Living
"What are you going to do with your new resurrected life? This is the heroic question." Richard Rohr

Moving Sale

It’s been a few weeks since I posted anything.  Laura, Jackson, and I moved from Oklahoma to Texas and it has been busy.  We had to box up all of our belongings and pack them in a U-haul truck.  We knew this day was coming for awhile so we started going through all of our things trying to consolidate and get rid of what we did not need.  It was amazing to find boxes of things that had not been opened since the last time we moved.  We decide to have a moving sale, not to make money, but just to get rid of stuff.  After the moving sale, we went through our things again and then I made a trip to the dump.  Although I hate to move, it is nice to discard of all the things you do not need.  These unnecessary items seem to clutter up one’s life, and it is good to leave them behind.

Paul offers similar advice to Christians.  He tells us to “put off” the things we do not need (Rom. 13:12; Eph. 4:22; Col. 3:8-9).  When Paul tells us to “put off” something, he is simply telling us to get rid of it.  He wants us to clean up our life.  This occurs when we become Christians.  We move from darkness to light, and because we are moving we need to have a moving sale to get rid of all the unnecessary things in our life.  Even as Christians it is good for us to evaluate our life to see if we need to move closer to God.  Each time we make a move we will need to leave what is sinful behind.  Paul instructs us to get rid of things which clutter our lives and enslave us.  Once we leave them behind we can experience true freedom in Christ Jesus.

“The night is far gone; the day is at hand.  So then let us put off the works of darkness and put on the armor of light.” Rom. 13:12
