Always on the Move

This week has been an adventure. We went to Cleveland for my sister-in-law’s surgery and we took Jackson with us. He is definitely mobile now. He walks, crawls, and does anything else to keep on the go. After we boarded the plane he grew restless until we took off. Sometimes we had to wait in the car while we programmed the GPS. He grew fussy, but as soon as we started to move evereything was OK. We had to spend quite a bit of time in waiting rooms and hotel rooms. Jackson seemed to dislike this the most. I am proud of my son because he did really well this week, even though he wanted to stay on the move.

I don’t blame this behavior on Jackson. I think it is natural for little boys to want to stay mobile. In fact, I believe all of us have a natural tendency to want to go. We may not admit this drive to keep moving, but if we examined our life I think we would discover that we stay on the go most of the time.

As Christians we often go. We go out into our communities trying to reach out and help where we are needed. We visit other Christians in other towns and other countries, in order to encourage, uplift, and edify. We go to places near and far striving to spread the gospel. This is good! We need to continue to do these things. God wants us to go, but sometimes He wants us to stop. We may need to stop and meditate on God’s word, or stop and pray. Maybe God wants us to just stop and rest. Rest was a part of God’s plan from the beginning. I think it is sometimes easier for Christians to go than to stop, maybe because going comes naturally to many of us.

“Be still and know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10
