"What are you going to do with your new resurrected life? This is the heroic question." Richard Rohr

What We Can Learn From Atheists

This article has floated around the internet for a couple of weeks, but it is a great read. The author interviewed young atheists about their experience with church and the results are fascinating. The author writes,

Some had gone to church hoping to find answers to these questions. Others hoped to find answers to questions of personal significance, purpose, and ethics. Serious-minded, they often concluded that church services were largely shallow, harmless, and ultimately irrelevant.

Consuming Ourselves to Death

This is a must read article about a guy who had it all and gave it up in order to live a happier life with a lot less. Writing about his consumption problem he says, “Somehow this stuff ended up running my life, or a lot of it; the things I consumed ended up consuming me.” Check out Living With Less. A Lot Less.

What Are We Doing With Our Time?

According to recent research Americans are working less and spending more time watching TV. Check out Americans Worked Less, Watched More TV in 2012

How Long Did Your Preacher Spend on that Sermon?

Scot McKnight put out this interesting post on how long ministers spend preparing their sermons. He writes,

Most pastors have workweeks much longer than we realize because of the invisible nature of sermon preparation. As for me, the results of this poll have caused me to pray even more fervently for my pastor. His work is long. His work is never-ending. But the work he does is vitally important.

Why Are Some Leaving?

Bobby Valentine has a great article on why some are leaving the Church of Christ and what we can do to prevent this. He offers some helpful musings and encourages having a conversation about these things. Check out Exodus: The Brain Drain in Churches of Christ

The Message in Monters University

This last week I took my 4 year old son to see Monsters University. We both loved it! The best review of this film is by Matt Zoller Seitz but I also found this great post on the message of Monsters University. You might be surprised how Monsters University offers a different message than many other children’s cartoons, a message that is much needed. Johnny Cash & Bob Dylan

In 1969 two of the greatest artists of all time got together and recorded 12 songs. Those songs were never officially released but they were bootlegged for many years. Because we now live in the age of the internet you can easily find these rare recordings. Check out The 1969 Bob Dylan-Johnny Cash Recordings: Twelve Rare Recordings

Stax Records

Tomorrow I will be traveling to Tennessee and I hope to get to stop off at the legendary Stax Studios in Memphis. This was the home of many legendary recordings over the years including this one by Otis Redding.
